Purpose of the role

  • To help ensure the smooth running and organisation of Citizens Advice South Derbyshire and City.
  • To provide administrative support to all teams.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Answer telephone calls and refer calls or take messages
  • Greeting clients and proving reception cover where necessary
  • Sending letters and emails
  • Processing post, receiving into Citizens Advice and outgoing
  • Filing and photocopying
  • Updating databases and information systems
  • Helping to organise meetings and other events
  • Work collaboratively with other colleagues
  • Provide a service that is based on sensitivity and respect for clients
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Work within agreed Citizens Advice systems and procedures


Personal skills and qualities that an office administrator needs:

  • A commitment to the aims and principles of the Citizens Advice service
  • To be organised and systematic
  • An understanding of the importance of Citizens Advice services
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A willingness to attend training and other meetings
  • To be able to work as part of a team
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
